Description

Melocactus azureus

Melocactus azureus is a stunning and rare species native to the limestone-rich regions of Brazil, prized for its powdery blue-grey epidermis and dramatic, contrasting spines. Like all Melocactus, it develops a distinctive cephalium—a woolly, bristly structure at the crown—once it reaches maturity, from which small pink to red flowers emerge. The striking coloration and unique growth pattern make it a centerpiece cactus for collectors of exotic and architectural species.

Key Features:

  • 🔵 Powdery Blue-Grey Skin: Unusual glaucous body with deep ribs and contrasting reddish or yellowish spines.

  • 🎩 Cephalium Formation: Develops a woolly, cylindrical crown at maturity that produces tiny flowers and fruit.

  • 🌸 Bright Bloom Display: Pink to red flowers emerge from the cephalium in succession.

  • ☀️ Collector’s Favourite: Requires warmth, full sun, and excellent drainage—ideal for advanced growers or greenhouse culture.

  • 140mm pot
