Known for its soft, blue-green to greyish body and short, delicate spines, it forms small globular to slightly cylindrical stems with shallow ribs. Despite its modest size, it puts on a spectacular floral display—producing large, vibrant pink to magenta blooms that can nearly cover the plant in spring or early summer.
